We’re helping more team members to go wild!

At Quorum Park we’re doing our best not only to make our own landscape as sustainable and inspirational as possible for all members of our community, but we’re also doing what we can for the health of the planet – and encouraging others to do the same!

With that in mind, three members of our team have gained professional development certificates in re-wilding this month, so they can help the park’s biodiversity to thrive, and pass on their new knowledge and skills to others.

Our onsite landscaper Colin, Ellis from our security team and our Q3 receptionist Roberta all attended Re-wilding, Nature, and Us, a training event at Gosforth Nature Reserve, courtesy of Climate Action North, an award-winning Community Interest Company (CIC) that encourages climate change action to drive positive change.

The interactive course, which included workshops, presentations and practical exercises to understand how life on earth works through the laws of ecology, as well as covering the different approaches that can be taken in community re-wilding, enabled Colin, Roberta and Ellis to learn more about the resources and support available to organisations like Quorum Park, that want to help nature flourish.

Commenting on the course, Ellis said: “What a great experience and an amazing setting! We started the day by meeting everyone in the group and then some relaxing outdoor meditation. I don’t usually enjoy a classroom environment but this was different, a very laid back and enjoyable day!

“I plan to go back to the Reserve and have a more thorough look around the place soon. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in wildlife and the environment.”

Laura McGrath, Quorum Park’s Sustainability and Community Director said: “As you may know from reading our Environmental, Social and Governance Report and Action Plan, , the climate and biodiversity go hand in hand, and both are in crisis.

“We believe the best way to begin to tackle that is by implementing small-scale improvements, such as setting up of a community re-wilding plan, and that is exactly what the course offered by Climate Action North will to help us build upon.

“We know from feedback from members of the park community that our approach to the environment is a central facet that supports their wellbeing, as our increasingly ‘wild’ spaces provide a calming setting that can be accessed during the working day. Spending time in our greener spots, you may even be lucky enough to see a deer or a bird of prey, both of which have been spotted in recent months thanks to our re-wilding efforts so far.

“Congratulations to Roberta, Colin and Ellis on the award of their certificates. We’re looking forward to learning from them in the coming months to further embed sustainability, embrace innovation, and generally to be a force for good in community re-wilding.”
