More routes serving Quorum Park than ever from this month

This week is a busy one for many at Quorum Park, as with schools returning for the autumn term, it tends to symbolise the ‘back to work’ period, marking the end of summer.

So, it’s great that we can bring you some good news on the commuter front, with some changes that mean we have even more buses from more transport providers helping our colleagues get to and from work each day.

From this week, our Q Express Zone, which runs seven days a week and not just at peak times to shuttle members of the park community to and from Four Lane Ends Metro station, will be served by three Stagecoach services, plus an additional three Go North East buses.

The changes came about after Arriva said it was withdrawing its 52 service. However, the zone will still be covered by Stagecoach services 62 and 18, as previously, with the addition of the Stagecoach 37 route, as well as Go North East services 352, 354 and 335.

Not only that but the Stagecoach 18 service will alter its route slightly so that it will come fully into the back of the park, making journeys to and from work quicker and easier for many.

Laura McGrath, Quorum Park’s Sustainability and Community Director said: “More than 150 buses visit Quorum Park every day, with journeys to Four Lane Ends taking place every 10 minutes. And with the Quorum App, travellers ride for free between the park and Four Lane Ends Metro station, saving them valuable money as well as linking them by Metro and bus to the whole of the North East region.

“We are equally well-served by routes towards Newcastle city centre, which visit us every 15 minutes, and members of the Quorum Park community are entitled to a host of discount travel fares, including flexible tickets designed to support hybrid workers.

“We pride ourselves on the great relationships we have throughout the region’s transport network that mean members of our community can be confident in frequent, reliable, hassle-free and environmentally-friendly options getting them to and from the office.”

Stagecoach’s 62 route carries passengers from Killingworth to Throckley via Byker and the city centre, while its 18 service from Forest Hall to Wallsend also covers Byker and Walker via South Gosforth and Heaton.

The new Stagecoach route 37 is a half-hourly service Monday through Saturday, reducing to once each hour on a Sunday. It will travel between Whickham View in Denton Burn and the Freeman Hospital via the city centre, but will also make stops in Cramlington, Killingworth, Burradon, Weetslade and Dudley.

Meanwhile, Go North East’s new 352, which is hourly on daytimes from Monday to Saturday, will follow the same route as the cancelled Arriva 52 bus, but will also serve Annitsford and Fern Drive in Dudley.

Its new 354 service will serve Benton Park Road and Four Lane Ends as well as Billy Mill and North Shields, while the revised 335 route, which is hourly on daytimes between Monday and Saturday, operates between Four Lane Ends and Benton's Asda.

Dan Graham, Commercial Development Manager at Go North East, said: "We are delighted that from Sunday, September 3rd, we have replaced the services that Arriva is no longer able to provide.

“We're proud to be partnering up with both Quorum Park and Stagecoach to provide free travel for employees to and from Four Lane Ends as part of the 'Q Express' scheme.

“Our Euro 6 buses on services 335, 352 and 354 are low-carbon and environmentally-friendly. We look forward to welcoming our new customers from Quorum Park on board soon!"

David Parker, Stagecoach’s Commercial Director added: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership to help improve sustainable transport choices at Quorum.

“With these changes, we’re extending peak time service 18 to run all the way to the east end of the Park, improving access. And following the Arriva withdrawals, we’re stepping in with our new service 37, linking to Cramlington and Newcastle City Centre, from early in the morning until late in the evening, seven days a week.

“These new routes join our service 62, and the Go North East buses, in the ‘Q Express’ free travel initiative, offering up to 10 buses an hour between Quorum and Four Lane Ends. There’s really never been a better time to make your switch to bus.”

Keep an eye out for members of the Quorum Hub team on Thursday, September 21st as they host a special pop-up event to help all members of the park get to grips with the many different routes and ticket options serving Quorum’s commuters. They may even have some special treats on offer, so do pop over to say hello.
