Getting to know – Claire Lusk

Events Manager Claire Lusk has been an important member of the Quorum team for 7 years and this month in our ‘Getting to Know’ series, we have been chatting to Claire about her role and her life outside of the workplace.

Claire, please can you tell us about the role you play within the Quorum team.

My role varies day to day, month to month. I create the events calendar for the community on the park, manage the Q card scheme and try my best to keep everyone updated with what’s happening on the park.

What roles did you have prior to joining the Quorum team?

It feels like I’ve been here forever, but before Quorum I was working in hospitality for a bit, and as part of the front of house team at DW Gym. I also used to do a bit of gigging in venues across the North East, and even sold karaoke machines in Fenwicks! I have the words to ‘Let it Go’ embedded into me now, haha!!

When did you start working at Quorum?

I’ve been at Quorum now for 7 years. I actually started as a building receptionist, then progressed into a few different roles before being promoted to Events Manager.

What do you enjoy most about your role at Quorum?

The variety. There’s always something different going on. Sometimes when I tell my friends what I’ve been doing at work they don’t believe me. We’re a bit bonkers at Quorum! If there’s not a giant Shaun The Sheep lurking about, you’ll probably bump into one of us riding the office dogs in the cargo bike, picking pumpkins or even petting an alpaca!

What makes Quorum a special place to work?

The community! I love getting to know the people working on the park, and being able to tailor our events programme around the great community we have. They make my job easier by coming up with some great ideas too.

From our community groups such as Q Pride, to the Christmas Market, it’s always nice to see new and familiar faces enjoying what’s on offer. I love a family fun day! Any excuse for a magician and animals.

What will be keeping you busy in the coming months?

Once our Halloween events are over it’s full on Christmas events planning. The Christmas market usually takes up a big chunk of time, as it’s our most popular event of the year. I love all the excitement of the planning process and building relationships with all our lovely local stall holders.

What has been your most memorable day whilst working at Quorum?

I don’t think I’d ever forget my first day. I remember getting a full tour of the park, and thinking it’s such a cool place to work, then before I left, we all had a glass of prosecco and a bit of cake to celebrate a few different achievements for the park. From then I had a feeling I was going to like it here!

Tell us something about Quorum that we may not know?

The Neon building was originally called Q10, but when we relaunched the space in to smaller office suites they decided to call the building Neon after the 10th element in the periodic table!

Who do you admire and why?

Probably an unpopular opinion but Kim Kardashian. I admire her business savvy, compassion, and attention to detail. Imagine getting a law degree at 40, and getting invited to do a talk to Harvard business students? It must be so empowering.

What gets you out of bed on a morning?

I would say my dog Sulley, but he is so lazy it’s usually me dragging him out of bed!

What keeps you busy when you are not working at Quorum?

Bootcamps, running and spin classes. Joining Maximum Fitness this year, has been one of the best things I’ve ever done for my mental and physical wellbeing. Which is why I’m so pleased they are doing another MF28 challenge for the staff on the park. It’s a great way to challenge yourself! I have learnt so much about myself since I took on the first challenge.

Name your top 3 albums of all time

·        Robbie Williams – Rudebox

·        Taylor Swift – 1989

·        Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

I haven’t listened to those albums in ages! But there was a time where they we’re on repeat on my CD player or IPad.

If you could be anyone from any time period who would it be and why?

Florence Nightingale, I always found her story inspiring as a child. She spoke over 4 languages and basically founded modern nursing! Imagine going into hospitals now without nurses.
