Getting to know – Ellis Nixon

At Quorum, we have a dedicated and talented team who work hard all year round to make the Park an engaging and attractive place to work. In our ‘Getting to Know’ series, we will be meeting them to find out about their interests & the roles they play as part of the Quorum team.

When did you start working at Quorum Ellis?

March 2017.

Please tell us about the role you play within the Quorum team.

As one of the security guards for Quorum Park I assist with any issues the Hub, the tenants, the grounds staff or the maintenance engineers might need help with.

What roles did you have prior to joining the Quorum team?

I worked as an operator in a CCTV and alarm response control room before coming to Quorum.

What do you enjoy most about your role at Quorum?

The diversity, I’ve never had 2 days the same in the last 6 years.

What is it that makes Quorum a special place to work?

For me its the social aspect of the job, lots of friendly people all around the park, always someone to talk to and always someone to help you if you need it.

What will be keeping you busy in the coming months?

I will be continuing to help out with any issues around the park as well as keeping up to date with my usual monthly duties.

What has been your most memorable day whilst working at Quorum?

The first day of the 2020 Covid lockdown was very strange, going from seeing about 7000 people coming into the park every day then seeing only about 100 people coming into the park was very disconcerting.

Tell us something about Quorum that we may not know?

Quorum is the word for the smallest number of people needed to be present at a meeting before it can officially begin and before official decisions can be taken.

Who do you admire and why?

David Bowie, he is a great song writer, artist and actor, I was lucky enough to see him live in concert many times.

What keeps you busy when you are not working at Quorum?

Mountain biking, walking, going to gigs and photography.

What does relaxation look like for you?

Having a lie-in while listening to the radio.

What was the last book you read?

The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis.  I enjoyed the book but I also enjoyed the film and the play.

It was adapted and rewritten for the stage by Enda Walsh and David Bowie in 2016, they renamed it Lazarus.

It only ran for a few months in London and I was lucky enough to get tickets, very memorable night. Lazarus was the last project David Bowie worked on.

Name your top 3 albums of all time.

My 3 favourite albums are – Diamond Dogs by David Bowie. Let Love In by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Station to Station by David Bowie.
