🌿 #QGrow February: Sow Something for the Future
As winter starts to loosen its grip, February is the perfect time to look ahead and sow the seeds of what’s to come - literally! 🌱
This month, we’re inviting our Quorum community to “Sow Something for the Future” - a chance to plan, plant, and prepare for a greener, more biodiverse year ahead.
🌾 Why February Matters
While it may still feel chilly outside, this is a month full of quiet activity beneath the surface.
Seeds are stirring, wildlife is beginning to wake, and gardeners everywhere are planning what to grow next.
At #QGrow, February is all about early action: starting hardy seeds, preparing soil, and sharing the excitement of new growth with others.
🌱 What to Sow Now
Even in the cold, there are a few crops that love an early start — either indoors or in a sheltered greenhouse:
🫘 Broad Beans
Sow in trays or small pots filled with peat-free compost.
Place somewhere bright and cool - they germinate well at 10–15°C.
Harden off and plant out in March.
Broad beans are a #QGrow favourite -they fix nitrogen in the soil and set the stage for healthy crops later in the year. Read more about Broad beans role as soil fixers here.
🌿 Peas
Hardy varieties such as Meteor or Douce Provence can be sown indoors now.
Use root trainers or toilet roll tubes to encourage long roots.
When seedlings are a few inches tall, they’re ready for hardening off and planting outdoors in early spring.

🥬 Early Spinach & Salad Leaves
Sow in shallow trays for baby leaf harvests within a few weeks.
Ideal for bright windowsills or cold frames.
🌼 Share the Seeds, Share the Joy
February is also the start of our #QGrow Seed Swap 🌻
If you’ve got leftover seeds, saved your own from last year, or simply want to try something new, we’d love you to get involved.
📦 How it works:
Drop off or collect seeds from our #QGrow allotment area or Q11 reception desk.
Label what you’re sharing - and add a little growing advice if you can!
Take something new to try this spring.
It’s a simple, sustainable way to reduce waste, support pollinators, and connect with other growers in our community.
🐝 Looking After Nature
As you plan and sow, don’t forget our local wildlife.
Leave log piles and leaf litter undisturbed - they’re still home to hibernating insects and hedgehogs.
Keep bird feeders topped up.
Consider planting early-flowering bulbs like crocus and snowdrops for hungry pollinators.
🌍 Growing Together
“Sowing something for the future” is about more than seeds. It’s about community, care and connection - nurturing the soil, the wildlife, and each other.
Whether you’re sowing broad beans, swapping seeds, or just sketching out this year’s garden plan, every small action adds up to a more resilient, nature-friendly Quorum Park.
👉 Join us this month by sowing your first seeds of the season, sharing your progress using #QGrow, and popping by to swap a few packets with your neighbours.
Together, we can grow a greener, more sustainable year from the ground up. 🌱
