Helping our community to get healthy & stay well

Back in the spring, we were delighted to be named an official scheme ambassador for Better Health at Work, the regional award scheme recognising the efforts of employers working to address health issues and improve the wellbeing of their team members.

Among the initiatives that have taken place across the park to help us gain this accolade for their positive effects are the recent launch of our e-bikes, our growing allotment and community garden, and pop-up sexual health awareness events in partnership with expert Lisa Hanson of the NHS Trust, that have helped ensure members of the park community know where to get further support locally, and have up to date information, as well as enjoying some useful freebies.

We’ve also marked international awareness days such as World Aids Day, helping reduce stigma, and have helped people learn new skills such as working with cut flowers.

But that’s not all. Our long-standing yoga classes – both on the park and online – and our lunchtime ‘netwalks’ are helping people to get active and make meaningful connections. And events like our kids’ bike ride mean the whole family can get involved.

It’s important to us that we offer added value for community members during their days in the office, while including those working from home, so we continue to work with a broad range of guest speakers and organisational experts on health-related issues such as the menopause, neurodivergence, smoking cessation, male mental health and careers, taking a big picture view of all things impacting our collective and individual wellbeing.

We couldn’t have done any of this without the support and engagement of our Quorum Park community, who turn up, make suggestions for new activities, support newcomers and give us valuable feedback to help shape future events.

Laura McGrath of the Hub is our lead advocate for Better Health at Work. She said: “The Better Health at Work scheme helps shape our many events and packed community programme here at Quorum Park and has done so for nearly nine years.

“We thoroughly recommend all our tenants think about taking part in the scheme in their own right as a way of keeping their workforce fit and healthy, and keeping up to date with the latest news in wellbeing. It is best practice sharing at its finest.”

We’ve plenty more planned to help 2023 to be your healthiest yet, so keep an eye on our Facebook page or visit our community page. And if you’ve any suggestions or feedback to help us plan future events, contact The Hub on 0191 691 0889 or at hub@quorumpark.com.
